Working To Protect The West’s Water Resources

Agriculturists and urbanites learn to optimize use, protect quality and conserve water.

The western states are settling the fastest growing populations in the country into the most arid environments. Both agricultural and urban interests see the need to optimize use, protect quality and conserve water--a scarce resource that is shared by both. Agricultural producers can use precise irrigation and fertilization techniques to save money and protect the water supply. Dwellers in rapidly-growing urban areas also need to conserve water and minimize pollution. Western universities are focusing research on Best Management Practices that use water more efficiently and prevent contamination of drinking water.
