Fighting Disasters With Knowledge & ‘Know-How’

Western Regional Universities On The Front Lines

Wildfire is a natural part of the ecology of the West. Changes in how citizens view and use the land and its resources have brought the threat to people and property to a flashpoint. Last year ranked as the most damaging fire season in a half century or more across much of the West. Research and Extension efforts are helping homeowners, agricultural producers and other westerners understand the issues, minimize the danger and cope with the aftermath of fire--only one of the assorted disasters nature dished up. Floods and earthquakes also mobilized Land-Grant educational efforts.
