Bringing Research Home

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) and Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP) teach skills in nutrition, food safety, sanitation, meal planning and food budgeting in the homes of participants. Oregon State EFNEP educators delivered nutrition education programs to 854 families with 1,256 children 19 years of age and younger. Wyoming Extension nutrition educators delivered the Cent$ible Nutrition program to 913 clients in 18 of the state's counties. More than 90 percent of the participants graduated from the program within a year. New Mexico State’s nutrition education program graduates more than 3,000 families annually. In addition, about 6,000 youth graduate from summer, in-school and after-school food and nutrition education programs. Utah State helped low-income families improve meal planning knowledge and food buying skills, saving an average of $31 on monthly grocery bills. Nevada's "Chefs for Kids" reached more than 11,000 students. About 80 percent of program graduates understood the connection between healthy diets, exercise, energy and overall health.
