Flood Facts

Truckee River overflows its banks in Reno, NevadaDuring the New Year’s Day Flood of 1997, Nevada’s Truckee River sloshed through casinos, and the Carson and Walker Rivers flooded rural communities and agricultural lands. Since then, Nevada organized conferences to address river-system conflicts. One major result was the supervision of the Carson watershed by just one instead of many agencies. In California’s “Ready or Not” program, extension launched a Web site clearinghouse to locate lost livestock and provided bilingual flood recovery education for farmers and homeowners.
