Utah State used CD-ROM technology to teach fifth-grade
students and their families how to prepare for and survive
earthquakes. Children in 36 of the 40 Utah school districts received
the hands-on kits and learned how to “drop and cover.” Plans are
ongoing to extend the project to seven other western states. After the
Northridge earthquake, California helped shaken survivors deal
with the aftermath through tips in the media.
