Hot buys were not what Idaho extension specialists had in mind when they went to work to help livestock producers find pasture to ivestock producers burned pasture replace forage lost to range fires. Within weeks, a free Web site provided a bulletin board for connecting those with pasture with those who needed it. Montana State helped coordinate the Farm Bureau Federation’s “I Care a Ton” program to provide hay to ranchers whose supplies went up in smoke. One report estimated the need at 1.2 million tons.
