“Hay, I
Need Help”
Hot buys were not
what Idaho extension specialists had in mind when they went to
work to help livestock producers find pasture to replace forage lost
to range fires. Within weeks, a free Web site provided a bulletin
board for connecting those with pasture with those who needed it. Montana State
helped coordinate the Farm Bureau Federation’s “I Care a Ton”
program to provide hay to ranchers whose supplies went up in smoke.
One report estimated the need at 1.2 million tons.
