"Mechanisms and  Mitigation of Agrochemical Impacts on Human and Environmental Health"

Pesticides continue to be the target of public concern, primarily due to their potential threats to human health and environmental systems. These concerns have an historical basis, although recent spills and reported residue contaminations have helped convince the public that these problems are not only in the past. Demands for high quality, inexpensive food and fiber with effectively zero risk continue to challenge agricultural scientists.

Economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture requires an integrated approach to pest management. Agrochemicals are one of many tools used to ensure an abundant food supply. Judicious use of agrochemicals demands practical knowledge of their fate and effects in agricultural and natural ecosystems. A mechanistic approach will allow for development of novel physical and biological analytical techniques to assist in ascertaining fate and effects. This new knowledge is required for the advancement of science-based management strategies which prevent or mitigate unacceptable adverse impacts on human and environmental health.
