This work involves the development, calibration, and application of a model of the Truckee River from Lake Tahoe to the Glendale intakes to determine the predicted impacts of spills that may occur on the Truckee River.  The model will be able to address a range of flow levels and provide travel time estimates from different locations on the river in terms of estimated time of first contact, an associated concentration curve, and estimated time for the spill to pass the treatment plants.  We will incorporate data from a new dye study done for this reach of the river in 2006 and 2007.  As part of this study, 15 cross-sections of the river in the reach between Tahoe City and Reno were surveyed, and sediment samples were analyzed for size fraction and composition.  A complementary hyporheic zone study is being done to provide estimates of transient storage on the Truckee River.
