Community Outreach

Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) the University of Nevada promotes multidisciplinary environmental research through a variety of outreach programs, activities, and events designed to disseminate the results of the research to the community at large.  Existing outreach programs continue to enhance the quality of science education, knowledge and enthusiasm of students and community members.   In addition outreach efforts encourage more individuals to address environmental issues and seek careers in this field.

The NRES has developed a wide range of outreach programs.  These programs are a result of the formation of several long-term partnerships within the University and community, which develop, implement and nurture common scientific and educational goals. The following are types of outreach programs at NRES.  Please click on the following to learn more about the outreach programs that encompass each type.

Programs:

  • Nevada Source Water Protection (a resource page for water supply operators and managers who need information about contaminants regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act and potential sources that could affect water supplies)

  • Center for Urban Water Conservation (a center in Las Vegas that focuses on many aspects of water conservation in arid, urban environments)

  • Turf Grass Management - Cooperative Extension's horticulture programs teach homeowners and park and golf course managers to irrigate wisely, save water, and adopt environmentally friendly landscape techniques
