Part I: General Parking Information

The University of Nevada, Reno has implemented a "zone parking system". Each zone comprises a group of parking lots, and is characterized by a given color. The four general parking zones considered for this survey are blue, green, purple, and silver. The exact location of lots corresponding to a given zone is shown on the University parking map. The current prices of parking permits and user privileges for each zone are as follows:

Blue    $34  allows you to park in any blue zone area
Purple $55  allows you to park in purple and blue zones
Green  $95 allows you to park in ASSIGNED green and ALL purple and blue zones
Silver  $265 allows you to park in ASSIGNED silver and ALL green, purple and blue zones

All permits are non-transferable and valid for one academic year. Permit parking is enforced Mo-Thu 7:30am to 8pm, Fri 7:30am to 5pm. Permits can be renewed each year. The following table shows how many parking spaces are assigned to each zone, how many spaces are permissible for a given permit, and how many permits of each type were sold for this academic year:

Permit type Assigned spaces per type Permissible spaces Permits sold 2000/01
Blue 1822 1822 3408
Purple 632 1822 + 632 = 2454 1409
Green 1591 2454 + specific green lot 2582
Silver 843 2454+1591 (all green) + specific silver lot 1114
4888 8513

In addition, the University offers 397 metered spaces (pink color on map). Permit holders can park at metered slots for free after 5pm. Otherwise, enforcement times for meters are the same as for permit lots. There are approximately 800 free off-campus parking spaces within 0.3 miles of campus.

The University also provides a shuttle service that connects major parking areas and colleges on campus. The campus shuttle operates from 7:30am to 8:30pm Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30am to 5:30pm on Fridays. The shuttles run approximately every 10 minutes and stop at the following locations:

North Shuttle Stop (17th Street)
