OBJECTIVE: The objective of this class is to give students a general overview of the reproductive processes. PREREQUISITE: BIOL 190, 191 and 192 (General Biology I, II ) CHEM 220A Organic Chemistry or higher VM 328 Veterinary Physiology and Applied Anatomy OR BIOL 223 Human Anatomy and Physiology LECTURE OUTLINE: Anatomy and Function of Female Reproductive System Anatomy and Function of Male Reproductive System Endocrinology of Reproduction The Onset of Puberty The Estrous Cycle Endocrinology of the Male and Spermatogenesis Reproductive Behavior Spermatozoa in the Female Tract-Transport, Capacitation and Fertilization Early Embryogenesis and Maternal Recognition of Pregnancy Placentation, the Endocrinology of Gestation and Partuition WEBSITE CLASS INFORMATION Information for the class is available on my personal website. The following information available includes: syllabus, list of terms for each chapter, student lecture notes and any other material important for the class. Student Lecture Outlines These outlines need to be copied and brought to each class period. You will use the outline for my lectures. If you do not have access to a computer they are available in the Student Center Lounge (FA 237A). You need to go to Room FA 236 to fill out the proper paperwork to obtain a computer account. Terminology A list of terms can be found on the website for each chapter. These terms will be used as possible quiz and test material so please take the time to define before the quizzes and tests are given. QUIZZES Quizzes on Tuesday every couple of weeks except during exam weeks. Quizzes will be given at the beginning of class. Each quiz will cover material from the previous three or four lectures, terms and chapters in the book. Should you miss class, unless due to some emergency, the quiz cannot be made up and you will receive a zero. EXAMS Exam material will cover lecture notes, terms and assigned chapters in the book. Exams must be taken at the assigned time. If an emergency should occur the professor must be notified before test time or the student receives a zero. GRADING Three exams at 100 pts. each 300 pts. Four quizzes at 25 pts. each 100 pts. Final exam at 100 pts. Each 100 pts. 500 Total pts.
