Prospective Students - Bachelor Degree

Student Life on UNR Campus

We are very pleased that you are considering enrolling at University of Nevada, and particularly pleased that you are interested in our undergraduate program in biochemistry. The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology offers undergraduate students exciting and exceptional educational opportunities.

Our faculty are dedicated to providing students excellent classroom and laboratory instruction, extensive hands-on experience with modern instrumentation, and one-on-one advising and attention from interested and dedicated faculty. In addition, we provide unique opportunities for students to participate in research on significant biochemical problems under the direct supervision of faculty who are recognized authorities in their fields of specialization. We encourage our majors to engage in research early in their academic career, continue it through the summers, and hope that your lab research experiences will be an important part of your academic endeavor throughout your undergraduate days.

Graduates of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology are particularly successful in gaining admission to professional and health-related graduate schools (medical, dental, pharmacy, and veterinary) as well as graduate schools in chemistry, biochemistry, or related disciplines. A degree in biochemistry opens a multitude of employment opportunities in both national and international companies.

Upon entering our program, you will be assigned a permanent faculty adviser whom you may consult anytime while you are a student at UNR. Questions regarding courses, prerequisites, and University policies can be addressed to your adviser. Career advising is a frequent subject of these sessions.

When you first arrive at the University, please come to the department office, 145 Howard Medical Building, and speak to one of our office staff. They will assign you an adviser whom I hope you will seek out at your earliest convenience to introduce yourself. You may meet with your assigned adviser during her/his posted office hours.

If you have any questions regarding our program, you may contact us or the department staff by phone 775-784-6031 or drop by for a visit 145 Howard Medical Building.
