Whitney Law

Major: Biochemistry
Year in school: Junior
High School: Galena
Hometown: Reno

Clubs and Organizations: Here we go, I am service chair in Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, a member of Alpha Zeta, the young republicans, Gamma Sigma Alpha, and a CABNR ambassador.

Jobs: I work at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center as a Pathologic surgical gross assistant. So I am a lab tech in pathology. I get to deal with a lot of random body parts but it has been a great experience and solidified my decision to pursue medicine.

Activities: I think I covered everything above, but I do watch Law and Order a lot….I suppose that is an activity.

Interests:
I love to shop, go to the beach, and be with all my friends who left me for out of state college. I love the sun and the snow but I hate really hot and really cold temperatures. I also love to travel. I would love to backpack through Europe one day.

Why UNR College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources?
I got to CABNR after somewhat of a journey. In high school I thought I was going to do all business through college and possibly pursue a law degree. I had applied to all my colleges as a political science major. Then all of a sudden I realized that I REALLY hate English and that lawyers write a lot and I don’t want to do that so I decided science would be fun. So I spent my first semester at Santa Clara University (a small liberal arts school), which is outside San Jose as a combined science major. Then after some financial problems (i.e. my parents didn’t pay) I came back to UNR to finish out my schooling. I decided that biochem is that major that suits me best so here I am and I couldn’t be happier. Now I am heading towards medical school and I even get paid to go to school since I have more scholarships than my tuition costs.

Favorite quote:
“Live life to its fullest and have no regrets.”

Favorite ambassador memory:
Anytime that’s spent just talking about useless stuff. It is nice to get to know each of the ambassadors because we all have very different backgrounds yet we all get along so well.

Advice for new students:
Stay focused on your goals and have a good time. Follow your heart and what will make you happy when you are older, not what everyone else thinks that you should do.
