Amanda Magrini at work.Amanda Rose Magrini

Major: Biochemistry with a Minor in Chemistry
Year in School: Senior
High School: Edward C. Reed High School
Hometown: Sparks

Clubs and Organizations: I am a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Student Orientation Staff, Alpha Zeta honor fraternity, Order of Omega honor fraternity, Gamma Sigma Alpha honor fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Med Honor Fraternity, and, of course, CABNR Student Ambassadors!

Jobs: During the summer I work at Wild Island, the water park in Sparks, as an Operations Supervisor. I get to train all the lifeguards in CPR and First Aid through my Instructor license with Jeff Ellis and Associates, and I also get to train the operations employees in how the park runs. It’s a great job, and I have worked there since my freshman year in high school. (7 years)

Interests: My favorite things to do (when I actually have timeJ) are swimming, skiing, snowboarding, basically anything to do with the outdoors, and traveling. I always enjoy a good book, and really like being involved in the University through clubs and organizations.

Why UNR College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources?
I came into the University as an undeclared major, and was really unsure of what I wanted to study. I went and talked to an advisor, and she told me about the career tests available at the Thompson student center. After taking those tests, they pointed me in the direction of the medical field, which brought me here! I really liked both chemistry and biology, and after learning of the biochemistry major this college offered, I was sold! I thought it would be not only the most fascinating field, but that it would also really prepare me for my road to medical school.

Favorite Quote: “To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.” -Unknown

Favorite Ambassador Memory: Probably playing Cranium in Tahoe, when people had to use other people to act out what a carpenter was.

Advice for New Students: Go to class. The worst habit to get into is skipping class, because I know it’s hard to believe, but they do tell you important information during the lecture you might not get from reading the book. Also, get to know your teachers. If they know you and know that you’re trying hard in their class, you’re almost guaranteed to get a higher grade.
