ACADEMIC & RESEARCH INTEREST

My primary interests are related to resource allocation patterns and how animal metabolism and physiological parameters relate to selection for production traits. Resource allocation patterns are of particular interest in animal populations that do not live under optimal environmental conditions. Therefore, it is a challenge to investigate physiological parameters of production traits and their molecular background in livestock produced in the Great Basin.

The paper "Undesirable side effects of selection for high production efficiency in farm animals: a review" (Livestock Production Science 56: 15-33) has been referred to 220 times.

 

In 2002 I have been chairman of the XI Reunion Nacional de Mejora Genetica Animal, Session on animal welfare and genetics, Pamplona, Spain.

 

In 1999 I was awarded the 'special 1999 scholarship' for young scientists to attend the 50th jubilee annual meeting of the EAAP, which was accompanied by a scientific publication in the special jubilee issue of Livestock Production Science.

 

I have refereed papers submitted to The Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, The Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, Animal Behaviour, Journal of Animal Science, Reproduction, Livestock Production Science, Animal Journal, Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics and Turkish Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
