2009 CABNR Undergraduate Research Scholarship Availability List

The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources has available three scholarships for undergraduates to perform original research. Listed below are the three scholarships and the award criteria for each. Research may be done in any CABNR faculty member’s laboratory during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semester or as specified by the Research Mentor. Students may apply for more than one scholarship.

 

BEGIN APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Western Nevada Supply Company Scholarship (WNSCO)
    1. Students must have freshman status at the time of application, be a graduate of Yerington and be pursing a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources.
    2. Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the year the scholarship is awarded and must be a full-time student.
    3. Students must work with a CABNR faculty mentor to perform original research in the field of Biotechnology or Molecular Biology. See list of specific Biotechnology and Molecular Biology mentors.
      Amount of award: $1,200
          
  2. Vera Stern Internship and Research Scholarship (Stern)
    1. Students must be junior or senior students at the time they perform this research internship and must be pursing a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources.
    2. Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the year the scholarship is awarded and must be a full-time student.
    3. Students may work with any CABNR faculty mentor to perform original research.
      Amount of award: $1,600
       
  3. CABNR Alumni Scholarship and Research Internship (Alumni)
    1. Students must be pursuing a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources and have attended an accredited high school in northern or rural Nevada.
    2. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the duration of the award.
    3. Students must earn a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year (i.e. during Fall and Spring semesters).
    4. Students may work with any CABNR faculty mentor to perform original research.
      Amount of Award: $1,100 

Further Guidelines:

  • Students graduating in May 2009 are not eligible.
  • All application materials must be received by March 27, 2009 or your application will not be given further consideration.
  • Acceptance of this award may impact a student’s income level to a degree that could affect eligibility for student loans, and other scholarship/fellowship opportunities. If an applicant has any concerns in this area, it is the student’s duty to consult with a campus financial aid advisor.
