Class Of: 2008

I am a Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology (WECB) major with a minor in Criminal Justice. I am a fifth year senior here at UNR, but I plan to graduate soon! I am very interested in mammals (deer and elk, specifically), and someday I would like to work as a big game Wildlife Biologist somewhere in the western U.S. I also have quite an interest in Criminal Justice, so trying a position such as a Game Warden sounds exciting.

Getting involved is part of college life. For myself I have joinedCABNR Student Ambassadors, Cast & Blast Outdoors Club, and UNR Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society. I am also working with Dr. Stewart in WECB doing various field projects like radio tagging big game.

What I love about the program is the small class sizes make for a better learning environment. Given my experience so far, I’m convinced UNR is preparing me for a successful career and future of my own. UNR has an outstanding Wildlife program, and I’ve enjoyed every single class I’ve taken. I’ve been able to really interact one-on-one with my professors, even though many of them are leading figures in their fields whose names keep coming up when I do research. And I have been very impressed with all the facilities that UNR offers. My interests were always outdoors, and WECB focuses on outdoor jobs and activities. It basically helps to fuel my passion.

College can be the most fun and exciting experience of your life, but it’s all for nothing if you don’t apply yourself and put forth a good effort. As hard as it may be at times, keep up on your studies, and learn as much as you can… It is very possible to have a blast as well as be a good student.
